The Membrane in Focus: Workshop and Symposium event aims to delve into the latest advancements in membrane technology, covering its applications in water treatment, gas separation, and energy generation. Pakistan Congress on Membrane and Membrane Processes (PCOM) is a flagship event of the Pakistan Membrane Society (PMs). The 1st and 2nd PCOM meetings were hosted by The Pak-Austria Fachhochschule: Institute of Applied Sciences and Technology (PAF–IAST) Haripur and the University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore in 2020 and 2022, respectively. PCOM 2024 is the continuation of that series and will be hosted by the School of Chemical and Material Engineering (SCME) National University of Science and Technology (NUSt) Islamabad. This event will be 2 two-day event, where the first day is dedicated to interactive lectures from experts and hands-on experience in using the simulation tools for process, CFD, and Molecular simulation. Similarly, participants will be given practical lessons on the characterization, synthesis, and testing of membranes for different applications in state-of-the-art laboratories of SCME NUST Islamabad. The 2nd day of the PCOM 2024 will be focused on a symposium where participants will showcase their ideas, membrane materials, and modules. Special sessions will be arranged for young scholars and potential students to advance their cutting-edge research from laboratory to field. Participants will gain insights into innovative membrane materials, fabrication techniques, and performance optimization. The event will also address the challenges of scaling up and implementing sustainable membrane solutions in industrial processes. Researchers, industry professionals, and students will have opportunities to network, collaborate, and share knowledge to drive future breakthroughs in membrane science and technology.

The Membrane in Focus: Workshop and Symposium event addresses critical national needs in Pakistan by highlighting advancements in membrane technology relevant to water purification, industrial wastewater treatment, and energy-efficient separations. With increasing water scarcity and pollution, Pakistan urgently requires sustainable solutions for clean water access and pollution control, in areas where membranes can have significant impact. Additionally, the event supports the nation’s growing industrial sector by promoting resource-efficient, low-energy separation technologies that align with Pakistan’s environmental goals. By fostering knowledge exchange and innovation in membrane technology, this event aligns with Pakistan’s goals for sustainable development and resource conservation.
